You can force LINUX to read/write NTFS volumes, but it would put your data in extreme peril. Your best plan is to enable "Recovery Console: Allow floppy copy and access to all drives and all folders" in the Local Security Settings and then if things go south, you can boot from a 2k/XP CD and use the set command in Recovery console to access the files. If you need more flexibility than the Recovery Console provides, a Win98 boot disk with NTFSDOS Pro does the trick. Not nearly as cool as using LINUX, but when valuable data is at stake, cool simply doesn't count. It wouldn't surprise me to see a LINUX alternative at some point down the road and I would be delighted to be able to use a disk like Knoppix rather than the clumsy methods currently available.
