View Full Version : Screen problem in Knoppix 5.01 HDD installation

I just downloaded the 5.01 ISO and burned it to a CD, and booted from it.
Everything is fine. Except that when I press Ctrl+Alt+F2 to switch to root console (to run
knx-hdinstall), I see only stretched text. I mean, the text is really torn apart and distributed as dots. Nothing can be read.
The X-Window system, however, works perfectly.

What seems to be the problem?
I hope the installation procedure has not changed from Knoppix 3.3??
Any help is welcome.

but someone's got to say it: Don't Install Knoppix!

Okay, now that's out of the way on to the meat of the subject. You would do well to pass along at least SOME hardware specs. Knowing video card at the least would be helpful. I'm sure many would be happy at that point in offering help. As of right now though, we simply cannot give you the answers you seek - not enough data.

you will get a subtely different experience doing the install from a dos screen off of the X window
qtparted shows different, from the gui was easier

did you try ctl-alt-f1 f2 f3 f4 ?
i doubt they'd be any different, but ....

Thanks guys.
It's OK now. It just happens once in a while. Don't know the exact reason.
By the way, the script knx-hdinstall didn't work with knoppix 5.01, unlike Knoppix 3.3.
Is that the way to install Knoppix 5.01??

Well, since you asked.... it's not advised. See answer #2 (http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/User:Harry_Kuhman) for both the cautions and the information on how to do this to yourself if you choose to ignore the warnings.
