View Full Version : How to write on HD?

Helo an thanks 4 your answers. I am learning C and HTML so i thinked what better than knoppix in place from instaling software in 2 windows but when i try to save in to my HD it says that it cant write in to it. Anyone has an idea?

ntfs support in linux is unstable, so writng to that is not wise, if you use a USB drive (pen...) with fat32 it would be easier.

just rightclick on icon choose mount, if it is not mounted already, that is signaled with a small green triangle in lower corner of icon.
now right click on icon again, in actions under that menu you can change to read/write.

You did not say in your post if your partition is NTFS or FAT. If it's FAT you should be able to write to it safely. If NTFS, I would not. In either case, you should have all important files backed upfirst, to cd/dvd/etc. If you're not sure, under Windows, you can click on 'My Computer', then right-click on C:. The resulting dialog box will show what tpye it is.
