Greetings,

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop computer, with an integrated NIC - the Int[/b]el Pro 100. The card works fine under M$ Windows XP.

I booted Knoppix from a CD, using the 2003-05-18 version. The network card does not seem to be detected. I did some snooping around to try and find the cause, but came up short. Any help that you can provide is appreciated. Here is my info:

Result of uname:
Linux Knoppix 2.4.20-xfs #1 SMP Mit Mär 26 15:37:36 CET 2003 i686 unknown unknown GNU/Linux

Here is the result of dmesg. I cannot find anything in it that relates to the Intel Pro 100 NIC, so I have posted everything. Sorry!

The above seems to say that an Ethernet controller from Intel was found but it was not recognized. And finally, the result of ifconfig:

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:4 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:200 (200.0 b) TX bytes:200 (200.0 b)

Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I found that Intel has a web page for Linux drivers: http://www.intel.com/support/network/adapter/1000/linux/e100.htm

Try ifconfig -a to see if the card is there but not configured if so try sudo modprobe eepro100 to load the module for the card. To see if the module was/is loaded lsmod if the module loads then netcardconfig to configure the card.
