copy file not working

Hi,

I was copying files from a corrupted windows installation onto an external drive using Knoppix. Everything was going great until I tried to copy the outlook.pst file (it's ~700mb). The copy stalled about 1/3 of the way through and now I can't see the file on the original hard drive.

Is it gone? The drive was NTFS, so it should be read only.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

the disk may verry well be heading towards the scrapheap, it may actually be physically damaged.
I can only point you to making a search here in the forum (and the net) on smart tools, to check the health of the disk, also the command
dmesg in a console should NOT have a bunch of IO error (input/output) that is not a good sign.
