Hi. Can someone help me with idiot-proof instructions for making my Epson Stylus D78 work with Knoppix 5.0.1, please? I seem to need to obtain a driver, at least according to http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Epson-Stylus_D78, but the link they provide doesn't seem to point anywhere, so I'm a bit stuck. I've read the destructions but I'm a complete Linux and Knoppix newbie, so please assume I don't have any background knowledge at all.

Not good news Im afraid, the driver for your printer is reported as only partially working and not yet included in the foomatic package. The only thing you can do now is wait and see if someone includes the driver in a later package or continue to dual boot to windows to print, sorry. I had the same trouble with a scanner, but not any more, before I buy any hardware I make sure it is linux compatible. This site lists Epson compatible printers, but not the D78

Thanks for the reply. Bad news, but at least it means I can stop wasting time looking for a solution that isn't there.

Hehe - found this post whilst looking for setup info!

I managed to get a D78 working on Ubuntu using the D68 gutenprint 5.0 driver which is included in Ubuntu. It printed text and pictures fine from OpenOffice, but wouldn't print images direct from an image viewer. I guess if you paste an image into an OO doc then that's a way around it.

Great! I'm just testing it now, and it seems to work OK, at least for printing text -- which is all I want it for. Many thanks.
