My config is one of the most common nowadays - asus m2n-e, amd 64 x2 3800+, galaxy 7300gt 128mb ddr3, 2x512 a-data 800 mhz, seagate 160 sata2. And still Knoppix does not boot. The last thing a see is "unloading uneeded agp modules" and just for a second i see the mouse cursor and my monitor goes to standby. When i type ctr+alt+backspase it wakes up and shows the console but just for 10-15 seconds and then attempts to start x again and again monitor goes to standby mode. When i try apic=off option the monitor does not go to standby but shows blank screen. When i try the failsafe option it finally boots but with no mouse support. So what is the reason for Knoppix not to work out of the box with one of the most common configs?
I also tried SabayonLinux live DVD and it worked with no problems. Hope you will fix these issues in the next release.

something in newer boards isn't liking Knoppix

I booted with noagp and now i did not see the "unloading uneeded agp modules" message but monitor still goes to standby.
The output of lspci is http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7402/m2ne7300gtzq4.th.jpg (http://img201.imageshack.us/my.php?image=m2ne7300gtzq4.jpg)

my asus pc-dl won't boot the cd either
i think because of sata
can you try disabling the sata parts for a test to see if the cd boots then ?

Tried what you suggested but with no luck. But after that I tried the xmodule=svga option and at the point where the monitor previously went to standby it blinked exactly 9 times and started x successfully. But now I cannot change neither the resolution nor the refresh rate - it is locked on 48khz, 60hz. So I think the problem is somewhere in the nv module.
