Hello All, At bootup, I seem to get a fatal error on both of these. ( /lib/modules/2.6.17/kernel/drivers/acpi/fan.ko): no such device...

Same w/ thermal.ko

it eventually boots but I am trying to make the system as fast as possible at boot. Can these be by-passed? I am running 5.0.1 on Virtual PC 7.02. This is a mock up to be installed on a Toshiba laptop that only requires a modem hook-up for internet.

No printer---no USB ... what and how can all these be disabled.

So far I have changed the hdparm -m16 -c3 -u1 -X34 /dev/hda
and set vga=normal

what is the fastest boot for an installed knoppix?

thankx,

those parts would be lines in files in

/etc/modutils

I guess that the files that are put into this directory get read and written into the
/etc/modules.conf file

if you haven't already seen, the /etc/modules file is written over at start from the
/etc/modules-2.6.17 (or your current version) so don't go changing the wrong file there

also... a Debian install wold probably boot faster since it doesnt try to detect all of your hardware.
