knoppix 4.0 to 5.1

Can an apt-get update followed by apt-get dist-upgrade upgrade my Knoppix 4.0 to the latest version ?

doubt it

you might be able to do some sort of apt-get line to specifically get the new distribution
I got an SMP kernel I have never used

but I don't know where it is
and you'd do a lot of updating immediately after
thinking more, all your apps would be 2.6.15
and they'd need updating to later versions to comply with the later build/compile

it'd be easier to save your /home directory and get the later cd/dvd
