hello,
im trying to install knoppix from the live-dvd version 5.1.1
when i enter step 2 it says installing then it says formatting and then i get the followoing error
http://rafb.net/p/Bp3cYl16.html

i have windows xp on one partition (sda1) and i got a second partition (sda2).
the last one is a empty partition i used for ubuntu.
because i had some network problems whit ubuntu i decided to remove it from my disk
i deleted 2 partitions in windows 1 from 8GB i dont remember where it was for and 1 of 51GB.
when i deleted the 8gb partition ubuntu and windows where still working.
when i deleted the 51 GB partition it got a new desription "unallocated".
then whit the live-dvd i made a new partition on the "unallocated" partition.
i clicked commit and restarted my laptop.

...
i configured in step1 as ext3 on sda2 i choose the debian syle
in the configuration there was only on option sda2, sda 1 was not there.
in the konsole if i enter fdisk [-l] it says unable to open.
if i type fdisk /dev/hda i get this http://rafb.net/p/NJqHJU42.html

so hope anyone can help me.

It looks like you have a corrupt partition table.

What I suggest first is boot up with your Win XP disk in the CD/DVD drive and enter Emergency Recovery Console.
Type
fixboot

This should remove grub and give you a working windows install.
You cant delete linux partitions from windows (only fat32 and ntfs)

If you still have trouble you maybe be able to use Acronis or other partitioning software to create your partitions.
Personally I always install linux in extended partitions, and reserve primary partitions for OS that can only use primary
i.e. Solaris, FreeBSD and Syllable etc.

i used¨partition magig to rearrange my disk.
i have now 3 partitions.
1 for windows xp didnt change it.
1 45GB partition.EXT3
1 6.5GB partitionEXT3
the last one is a logical partition inside a extended primary partition.
this screenshot makes it more clear
http://img167.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=12031_partitions_122_461lo.JPG
i dont know why this last partition is inside another partition, partition magiq did this automatically.

is this a good setup? which partition should i use to install linux?

----edit----
and it seems like there is already space in use on the 45gb partition, the yellow colored space.
