View Full Version : Knoppix 5.1.1 on ECS Geforce6100SM-M boot problems

Hi all,

I was putting together a new system based on a ECS Geforce6100SM-M and it had a bit of problem booting, hanging first on udev (Starting udev hot-plug hardware detection ...... ( hang ))

so I used the "noudev" cheatcode,

and then it hung on "loading agp modules"

so I used the "noagp" cheatcode upon which Knoppix would get into X windows.

Most everything seems to work except for sound.

This uses the Nforce 6100-405 chipset and I've got 2GB of ram and AMD Athlon64x2 3800+.

There's a strange crash in the dmesg log, with regards to snd_hda_codec.

Here's lspci -nn, lspci -v, and dmesg output

Well I kept playing with booting and being patient, I see that the Udev detection will actually finish if I'm patient enough.

Sometimes it might take as long as 100 seconds, but then it proceeds. Sometimes it will finish much more quickly, it varies.

I still need the noagp cheatcode, though.

Since sound didn't seem to work, I tossed in a cheap c-media 8738 soundcard which knoppix seems to like.
