Problem with my CDMA USB modem

Ok, I've downloaded knoppix, burnt the image - and it boots up fine. However it won't recognise my USB 'CDMA wireless network' telephone modem. (Huawei ETS2288). I've tried installing the (Windows) driver and this puts an icon on the desktop to connect to the service - but nothing happens.

I assume Knoppix hasn't 'seen' my modem. What do I do?

I'm completely new to Linux, so please be gentle with me!! :D
