Hi,

I have Knoppix on my usb key (persistent mode). I want to add a printer, which is on our LAN here at the office. But Knoppix tells me something about CUPS. What is that, and do I need to install CUPS to add my printer.

In other words, how do I add my printer so that Knoppix will print to it??

Thanks in advance,

Marc

Yes you need CUPS (Common Unix Printing System), here's a brief howto:

1. Open a root shell: K->Knoppix->Root Shell, type: passwd, and enter a root password

2. In the root shell type: cupsd, to start the CUPS server.

3. Open the KDE print manager: K->Settings->Printing Manager

4. Click on Add, Add Printer/Class and follow the prompts. Printers on Windows machines on your network (with sharing enabled) should appear when you scan for SMB shared printers. If you get errors regarding having permissions to add a printer, use Administrator mode with the password you set in step 1.

Good luck.
