hello,
I have recently received a knoppix cd and am slowly learning how to use it.
I would really like to know how to ditch the cd and put the operating system on my hard drive so i can finally download things, if thats even possible. I have struggled to find anything that is even compatible with knoppix and it is very frustrating. Any advice owuld be very much appreciated, thanks a bunch!!

Several things to respond to:

Please don't post the same thing multiple times. This is considered a form of spamming. Your duplicate posts have been removed. Please also use informative subjects, your "help me" subject line was one of the ones that was removed.

The forums are organied by subjects. You seem to have seen that since you posted in multiple foruns. If you really want to discuss installing Knoppix, the best choice for that would be the HDD Install forum, which you did not use for any of your posts. But see below.

Knoppix is really not suitable for installing to a hard drive, particularly not for a beginner. See answer #2 (http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/User:Harry_Kuhman) for details.

Debian is extremely compatable with Knoppix (Knoppix is built from Debian). It is intended for hard disk install. So if Knoppix fits your needs, Debian should install and work well for you. That's not to say it's the only Linux distro that might be a good choice, just a suggestion offered in answer to your question.

Hello colleen201,
If you haven't done so already, try making a persistent /home for Knoppix in an external USB drive. A laptop hard drive in an external USB enclosure will give you lots of hard drive space for saving files in. Even a USB memory stick is big enough for saving settings and bookmarks and that type of thing. Here's my blog about it, http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/p20.html
