Hi all

I am new to linux world.. and I have downloaded and burned the image of Knoppix 5.1.1 DVD English Version..

I am currently running on HP Laptop dv6314tx and have Vista Ultimate 32bit Edition running on my system which will remain as the primary OS on my system...

I am installin knoppix for some project work and testing..

Can anyone tell me step-by-step how to install knoppix on dual boot on with vista without screwing up the MBR.. and later how to safely remove Knoppix and restore MBR to its original with vista.. Also what else to keep in mind during installation.. I have 160GB HDD and 1GB RAM..

thanks in advance..

Since you seem to want to ignore all of the warning about this including those referenced in my answer #2 (http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/User:Harry_Kuhman), I'll put it in a simple way that you might accept: Normal Knoppix has some issues when installed to hard disk. However, there is a special version of Knoppix made just for install to hard disk. It's called Debian (http://www.debian.org/releases/testing/). In addition to being much more stable than Knoppix, and known not to have the many "worked from the CD but broke after a hard disk install" problems that Knoppix has, it can be safely updated and new software can be safely installed, it's also much more current, since the latest official Knoppix release is about 19 months old.

You post is being moved to the forum for discussing installing Knoppix to hard disk.
