So this laptop has got a 802.11b card, but as I read not all b's support WPA?
I was successful in setting up WEP using KWiFi, not a problem, but when I tried doing WAP KWiFi did some crazy shit, so I went ahead and searched these forums until I found out about wpa_supplicant, my file sort of looks like this:

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

network={
ssid="test"
proto=WPA
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
pairwise=CCMP
group=CCMP
psk=dead
}
I then try to run using the command wpa_supplicant -c /etc//wpa_supplicant.conf -i eth0 -D wext -dd

I get this crap:

Initializing interface 'eth0' conf '/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf' driver 'wext' ctrl_interface 'N/A'
Configuration file '/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf' -> '/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf'

Cancelling scan request
at the "No suitable AP found it just loops and tries to scan again and again, so I kill the process.

And that's what I'm wondering, why is a suitable AP not found when it's right there? Anyways, I think the key lines are:

wpa_driver_wext_set_wpa
ioctl[SIOCSIWAUTH]: Operation not supported
WEXT auth param 7 value 0x1 - Driver does not support WPA.

Does this my card does not support WAP? That would suck ass, but oh well, WEP is still better than nothing.
