I am using Knoppix 5.1.1 with a persistant home and I am trying to get my ViviCam 3350 working, mainly as a webcam for aMSN, but it will not allow me to use it. I have tried it on different USB ports on my machine. The camera works, as I tried it in Windows XP. Anyone have any ideas?

Some more info:

I booted into Kanotix (the lastest) and it put an icon on the desktop with this url:

camera://ViviCam5B@[usb:001,003]

but gtkam in Kanotix detected it as an Argus DC-1510

lsusb in Knoppix gave me this:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID2770:9120 NHJ, Ltd Che-ez! Snap / iClick Tiny VGA Digital Camera

USBView gives me this info:

One final thing i forgot. In gtkam when I put the usb:001,003 as the port for the camera, it says Could not initialize camera.

I came across this thread in the Mepis (another Debian distro) boards, perhaps it will help:

http://www.mepis.org/node/8114

It's important to keep in mind that the camera my be identified by other than it's labeled name, and that treating it as if it were what the software sees it as might work.

It is also worth stating that you might find better support for the camera in other distros, like Kanotix or Mepis/Ubuntu etc.

HTH

I decided to go with Sidux. The camera at least is detected properly.

This is academic for now, because my Dell's motherboard starting acting up and so I had switch to and begin setting up my back up IBM.
  :? :( :x
