Knoppix is a Live CD. Great way for a new user to try Linux without installing anything. It's also handy for data recovery and many other tasks. But if you want a file server, or a multi-user Linux installed system, I suggest that you look at Debian or any of several other Linux distros intended to be installed to hard disk and then install exactly the applications that you want or need.

but can it be used for an network server, was it intended to be used on a network server.
Can it be used as a network server? Yes, in much the same way that a wrench can be used as a hammer.

Was it intended to be used as a network server? There are some servers included (server is a very broad term). You can try these servers to learn more about Linux, although you may have to edit some files on the CD (yea, on the read only CD) to actually make the servers work. It is certainly not intended to be used for a full production regular server.

Does that answer your homework questions?
