Failed to detect NIC

I'm using Knoppix 5.1.

However, it does not detect my 82566DM-2 Gigabit NIC

I've downloaded e1000e-0.2.9.5.tar.gz and it prompted me to get kernel-devel

i just started out linux a few days ago, and not sure how I should go about doing this.

Will anyone guide me along?

Download and burn the Knoppix 5.3.1 DVD or now the CD .iso and give that a try. Knoppix is pretty good at detecting.

Or go to KNOPPIX > Network/Internet Configuration and try to configure it. :P Good Luck.
