Guys, im in desperate need of help today..we are actually having researches on any OS we could and explain its architecture, characteristics and some of its component management such as Communication, Process management, file management and a few on Input/Output Management.

My problem is that I cannot defend how Knoppix takes over a system whenever it boots up. What is the magic (or the specific explanation) behind the boot up process of Knoppix..? It is a type of a Linux right..? Does it have a preinstalled Linux Kernel on the CD? What Kernel does it utilizes? Or does it need to have a kernel?

Does it overlap the default OS? I don't know, really, what to say..Is Knoppix compatible to any OS it "overlap"s? Or is overlapping the right term...? I think it needs a kernel so that there would be a communication between the hardware and the OS. am I right? Oh man..

Thanks to anyone who could help within a couple of hours..

I would be watching tightly on the PC!

to get good answers you need to ask better questions.

read on LFS site (link below) to get a fairly detailed explanation how a Linux system boots.

http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/
start looking here (just read any of them, they are fairly similar, i would suggest this to begin with.
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/
then do a google search or two, this is a subject that can occupy a few meters of shelfspace.

and YES there is a linux Kernel and what else needed to boot on the CD or DVD, you can remove the HDD and it will still boot just fine.
no it does NOT use anything of the other OS.
however it DOES use prom information on motherboard, NIC... and to some extent BIOS.
