Hello,

I am rather new to linux so please bare with me. i recently had a windows system file stop working, i am attemting to replace it using Knoppix 5.3.1. it will not allow me to simply delete and replace the file. The file i am trying to replace is Beep.sys unfortunatly it is a required file for windows to boot although all it is, is a sound.

what can i do to replace this file with one pulled from a similer system?

Assuming that you have a NTFS formatted disk, my advice is to NOT write to it with Knoppix. Use Knoppix to recover any files that you need and then reinstall Windows. Or use a Live Windows CD to write to a NTFS partition.
