just booted 5.1 on my new build ok but it failed the dsl/pppoe config tool for both eth1 & eth2.

just for the heck of it i entered an address into konqueror & discoved I was on the net!

i did some searching & tried netcardconfig cmd & it sez dhcp broadcast from device eth2 ok.

I have 3 computeres plugged into a hub which has the dsl modem plugged into it.

anyone know why the config tool failed? I ran into the same thing with kanotix but couldn't get on the net with it.

i got a gigabyte ep45-ds3r mobo.

You don't identify your network hardware so this is just a guess, but my first thought is that your DSL modem includes a built-in router and that you don't need (or want) PPPoE software at all, for Linux or Windows.

its a realtek onboard 8111c chip.

builtin router might explain why it came up by itself on my notebook with win 2k.

when googling i ran across people having problems with this chip in debian & ubunto but then they aresn't as uptodate as knoppix 5.1 or kanotix thorhammer I guess. those are the only 2 distros i've had success with so far.

It did bomb when i tried the dsl 4.4 live cd tho.
