user name & password for knoppix 7.1 installation

hi..!

i have installed knoppix to the local drive...and some configurations require root password ...which was not created during the installation
could you please advise me..how to create user name and password for root account
appreciate yor help

start in runlevel 1 (possibly runlevel 2, not quite certain)
knoppix 1
type passwd root (or was it sudo passwd root?)
type new password (nothing will show on screen)
hit enter
retype
hit enter
type
init 6
or if it feels better just type
reboot
hit enter.

you should now have a root password.

I guess it shows am bit tired (been up since 06:00 yesterday, it is now 13:40)
