Hello,

I m trying to install a linux distribution my Amilo Xa2528 laptopmbut but non boots from cd/dvd, tried ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 Alpha 4, Debian 5 no luck,
i used linuxinstall to install from network, the os works then but cant find my cd/dvd-drive, but knoppix fully booted does find it
Anyone a idea what makes the differnce, there lots of Xa2528 users who would like a good working dvd-drive in linux

If no other linux but knoppix work then its the linux kernel or more specifically the 2.6.28 kernel that has some esoteric driver that your hardware needs. As other distros release updates then your laptop should work with them also.

There has to be some other difference cause Fedora 11 alpha and Ubunutu 9.04 Alpha 5 also use kernel 2.6.28

can someone tell in which way is knoppix's kernel different to ubuntu's?
