Replacing kernel

Isi it save to copy .config file from this kernel (knoppix one) to normal 2.4.20 kernel and compile it ? I want to replace kernel form knoppix with normal 2.4.20 because, when I want to mount ntfs partition, knoppix kernel doesn't see files with polish letters.
