Hello,

I just installed Knoppix on my hard drive- no partitions except for the 'swap' space that it created. Now, I would like to partition my hard drive (I know I should of done it at the install, but I didn't, so here I am). I am trying to boot off of a Gparted live CD and do the partition- but now I can't get my system to boot off of the CD, it just keeps booting up Knoppix from the HD.

Any suggestions?

1. Be sure that the boot order in the BIOS trys to boot from the CD before booting the hard disk.

2. If 1 above is not the problem then the CD you have is very likely not made properly. What you describe has nothing to do with the installed OS.

3. Don't install Knoppix. Rather than try to repair this, you would be much better off installing a Linux Distro intended for hard disk install, such as the current Debian testing distro. My suggestion would be to download the current Debian testing NetInstall ISO (http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/daily-builds/daily/arch-latest/i386/iso-cd/), burn it correctly as an ISO file to a CD (or better yet a CDRW) at low speed, and Install Debian. During the install you'll have a chance to set up the disk partitions as you want.

3. Don't install Knoppix.

This distro of linux is probably my favorite one because of its so much smaller than some of the other ones that i've used. like fedora, ubuntu, and centos. They all do what I need, but knoppix doesn't try to do everything, which I like.
