View Full Version : Boot failure on GA-MA770-3SP

Hi,

I have just downloaded KNOPPIX_V6.0.1-ADRIANE_V1.1CD-2009-02-08-EN.iso and burnt it to a CD. It boots one of my computers (strangely without sound) but fails to boot the other at all.

The failure is with a
GigaByte GA-MA770-3SP motherboard,
AMD X2 3600+ cpu,
PCI ATI 9200 series video card,
1 GB of memory,
SATA DVD burner.

After the "boot:" prompt times out it displays,
"Loading Linux ..........",
followed by,
"initrd.gz ..............".
Then the screen goes black, and the keyboard fails to respond to anything, not even NumLock, CapsLock, or the <alt><sys_request> combinations.

I did get it to boot when I typed in a dozen no{everything-I-could-think-of} options at the boot: prompt.

Now what? Do you have a formal bug reporting system? What more information would you like?

I saved the output from lspic and lspci -n from the attemp that booted...

Greetings
First, a cd dvd burned DAO at a slow rate and
on the drive you will use it on can help.
But there may be SATA issues.
Search this forum for SATA DVD
See the advice at the end of this post.

The burn is good.

"rawread /dev/cdrom | md5sum" agrees with the download value.

It still fails, in one computer but not the other.

It boots if I type in "knoppix acpi=off".

knoppix@Microknoppix:/proc$ cat /proc/cmdline
ramdisk_size=100000 lang=en vt.default_utf8=0 apm=power-off vga=791 initrd=minirt.gz nomce quiet loglevel=0 nolapic_timer BOOT_IMAGE=linux acpi=off

It was not a bad burn.
