Hi,

After HDD install of Knoppix 3.2 5/3/03 release, I've been tweaking around to make things work. I launched KsCD after putting an audio CD inside CD-ROM, I kept getting read error messages advising that I don't have permissions. I've tried mounting non-audio CD and discovered that I could read files from CD-ROM fine. I've checked ls -l /dev/cdrom and found 'lrwxrwxrwx' linked to sr0, checked that ls -l /dev/sr0 and it was also 'lrwxrwxrwx', again linked to scd0, the last one had no rwx permissions for group and others. Fixed that, probably making system less secure giving a block device 'brwxrwsrws' all permissions. Now, I can launch KsCD and play, but I can bearly hear anything. The speaker volume is turned up all the way and the volume slider on KsCD is all the way to the right, but I can bearly hear music. I've checked the connection to sound card and tried moving plug to differnt input jacks just to be sure I'm in the right church and the right pew. No change. I did sndconfig as root and the sample that was played was the same way. Duno what else to check. I kicked out dmesg and cut-and-paste it below. Thanks in advance for assistance.

Regards,

Joseph Schiller

Hm,

I found how to fix the problem. Went to conntrol center and entered custom sampling rate 4800 Hz for Yamaha soundcard. Launched Kmix and was able to adjust the volume fine. Great! Now I can annoy the neighbors at all hours.
