permissions

Hi.... I booted up my Knoppix Live CD, and I'm trying to copy some files from the local hard drive (with windows XP installed) to a USB thumb drive.

When I try to drag any files over it says that I don't have permission... If I try to copy a whole directory is says that it's unable to create a folder...

I don't know how to fix the permissions....Could someone give me some pointers...?
