Hi

I have a problem with my hdd (changed partition serial number, so now i cant go back in win xp), so i need to boot in a way or another to have access to my HD and save my data. One told me knoppix was the best solution so i tried and it didnt work... i get 'Can't find KNOPPIX filesystem'. I use the 3.1.1 ver. I cant use 3.2 coz its too big to download, dvd version... What is the problem? My computer is a custom i built myself with win xp. Its on ASUS P5Q, radeon hd 4870, e8500. What must i do to fix it? I must save my data at all cost.

Thanks for your help!!

I think the issue is with your cdrom drive not being recognized by the kernel

Once the system starts to load it should load drivers for your cdrom but if said drivers are not available it won't find the rest of the os on the cd

Try replacing your cdrom with something else. is it scsi?try borrowing a cd from a friend or putting your hd in another machine and booting that with knoppix

I seen a problem that the driver for the drive controller on the motherboard was not included in the the kernel. I was able to boot using a USB DVD drive. Still didn't have access to the drives though. I would recommend getting the latest Knoppix build (6.2 I think) and try with that. If the DVD image is too big get the CD image, it should still provide the tools to get the data off the drive if it can see the controller and mount it. If that doesn't work my understanding is that you would have to make a custom CD/DVD with the drivers for your system put into the kernel, but I've never tried that yet.

Other option if your not running a raid setup would be to move the drive to a computer than the version of Knoppix you have can load on.
