Hi, I am unable to boot from DVD or CD. I'm running Windows Vista dual booted with Mandriva 2010 Powerpack on a Dell Desktop Inspiron 530S. I'm trying to boot KNOPPIX_V6.2.1 DVD-2010-01-03 and same except CD. I get the boot-menu and select "boot from CDROM" then get a message that " no boot device available press Enter again".
Following is listing for "lspci -v":

I assume you are able to use the DVD drive under Windows and Mandriva - have you tried just taking a look at the media you have burned with the Knoppix iso? And did you verify the iso when it was downloaded, and the media when it was burned?

Uh oh (maybe.) I'm thinking that 66 MHz is a VERY slow mode for the SATA controller - what does the BIOS show for your DVD drive?

Well, I hope it's helpful. Maybe the best thing is to burn again on another disk at a slow speed, or try the media in question in an external DVD drive, if one is available.

Cheers!:)

Here's my corresponding section, FS Amilo PRO 3405 (2007)

00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7 Family) SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 01 [AHCI 1.0])
Subsystem: Fujitsu Technology Solutions Device 10c1
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 26

Same freq, and I have no problems. So I don't think the problem is there. I would have checked the media, remember I ended up using CD-RW for such installs some years ago because it turned out to be the most reliable medium with my writers..
