View Full Version : Knoppix 6.4.3: Dead keyboard with 'lang=uk'

I just downloaded KNOPPIX_V6.4.3CD-2010-12-20-EN.iso and burned a CD.
At the boot: prompt I enter 'knoppix lang=uk nosmp'. These worked OK with an older Knoppix that I have used for some years. The 'nosmp' cheatcode seems to be needed to make Knoppix work with my Dell laptop and 'lang=uk' is needed to work with my UK keyboard (I am in the UK), but the keyboard is completely dead with 6.4.3.

Omitting 'lang=uk' makes the keyboard work OK but of course with some keys in the wrong places.

What am I doing wrong? If I am not doing anything wrong, should I report this as a bug, and if so, how do I do that?

@peter

Elsewhere on this forum Jacques1 suggested
as a work-around, something like:

Do (on a command line)
less /var/log/Xorg* | grep -i pc

Find keyboard is pc105 (or whatever)

Then try (on a command line)
setxkbmap -modelpc105 -layout gb

It either works or it doesn't;
if it does, add it to /etc/rc.local

There is another workaround from a friend in Germany:

Quote:

Boot with

knoppix lang=uk xkeyboard=gb

which should give you back a working keyboard on X as well as on the
text console.

I'm fixing this for 6.5 right now.

Utu: Many thanks for the 'quote' from your friend in Germany! It works fine. In fact only 'xkeyboard=gb' is enough to do the job, except for one missing key (the UK 'pound currency' symbol).

Do I understand that it will be possible to just enter 'knoppix lang=uk' (or maybe lang=gb?) into 6.5? That's great. I will wait for it. Please pass my thanks to Klaus.
