Im running knoppix 6.5 HD on a Asus Eee PC, i usually boot with acpi=off or aspi_osi=linux (or else screen will go blank), and the system boots and works for a while, but then programs start closing, and menu's stop working, and the system won't let me shutdown.
It also sometimes opens a black screen with some options something like

Module Loader present

Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting,

(++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational,

(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.

Any idea whats going on?

The markers mentioned are usually found in the X server's log file /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Maybe you should try another driver for your grahics card by using the cheat code xmodule.

Since you know how to specify acpi=off as a boot option, you could specify other options. And one other option is called xmodule, and if you search the net for knoppix cheat codes, you will come across there are many possible values for xmodule, such as fbdev, vesa, intel and so on. So you just try with the various values in the boot option and see how it goes. Maybe you have better luck.
