n00b here, no previous linux. WinXP Pro sp3 but booted to Knoppix 6.7.1 Live DVD. I get the female voice on my speakers at Knoppix logon and logoff but I get no sound on mp3s or the audio part of vids. I went into Preferences/System/Multmedia but all I see for a sound setting is Pulse Audio Sound Server. The Test produces no sound. Under Speakers it was set to my mobo's HDMI out but I changed it to Internal. Then Apply is ghosted. No sound. Oh, and BTW, yes, my speakers are on, set to med/hi, and the Knoppix volume control shows 58.

Realtek High Definition Audio 2.65 driver onboard ASUS "M2A-VM HDMI" mobo (no extra sound card) pushing analog audio to simple stereo speakers. Working great on XP. How do you get lspci -v output with readable line breaks? All I did was copypaste.

I have the same problem only with Knoppix 6.7.1.
I also noticed that the bluetooth is turned off without giving me the opportunity to recognize other devices like the telephone ... I do not know if it has something to do with the sound problem.

Someone can help us ?

I finally solved the problem partially.
I launched from the terminal command: gnome-volume-control
I raised the volume of output at 80% and no mute flag
In the tab "Hardware" i chose "Duplex Analog Stereo"
In the tab "Output" i chose "analog speakers"
It works even if the sound is of poor quality.
In the system settings / multimedia / audio output, I can only choose Pulse Audio Server instead of my integrated card HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog).
This statement, however, is present in the audio input .... mystery!

The fact remains that even the bluetooth does not work properly because it is recognized but is disabled.

Bye

Thanks for digging that nugget up, I'll try it.
