Hi,

Please help me out as i'm pretty much new to knoppix/linux. i've downloaded knoppix live DVD 6.7.1 torrent , verified md5 cheksum and then burned the image using nero.

Now when the DVD boots knoppix stucks on second screen at "USB waiting" and "searching knoppix 6" after checking system configuration and with some attempts of automated search/USB waiting it says "could not mount dist to /mnt-system. Starting debugging shell ". What could be the problem and how to overcome this error so that knoppix start properly.

My System Configuration:-
i5 processor, 4GB RAM.

Regards
Gaurav

First of all test the success of burning a DVD with Knoppix cheatcode "knoppix testcd"! If only one Byte is wrong, the whole DVD is worthless.

If you want to burn a DVD, select a high quality DVD, disable screensaver, use low speed (4x) within your burning tool and last but not least do nothing else with your computer till burning process is ready.

Hi Werner,

Thanks for the response, still getting same error. The DVD was burned at 8X(lowest available speed in my nero version) without doing anything on the system at that time.

I tried using cheatcode as suggested "knoppix testcd" but nothing happened and it continued to boot the kernel and stucked at the same step "searching for knoppix 6".

On first boot screen, i hit F2, then on boot typed knoppix testcd and pressed enter. Hope i used cheatcode correctly.

Gaurav

Insert the DVD, run

md5sum /dev/sr0in the commandline and compare the result with the downloaded md5sum. If it's not equal you have a burn error.

Once upon a time I have had the same problem when I tried to boot a Knoppix DVD by mistake in a CD device.

If you use the same DVD device for burning the DVD an to boot from it, perhaps the device has problems with is own DVDs.

Hello garva21
I'am also somewhat a "new". So my suggestions may not be so sure.
I propose you
1°) To download an "ISO" without TORRENT and burn it simply.
OR
2°) To verify that you are not booting with:
a) either an "too big" usb_HDD (bigger than 500 Go)
b) either an "USB_3.0" which your laptop does'nt accept AT BOOTING
c) either a "SATA_HDD" if your laptop is somewhat "OLD"
c ) or the combination of a), b) and c)
OR
3°) You have not the "Internet cable"connected. If so try disconnecting it.

All these cases were the ones I encountered on my "OLD laptop" (IDE internal HDD)
Nevertheless i am very satisfied with "Knoppix_6.7.1_DVD"...
excepted a "Grub problem" posted in this Thread.
This problem is now solved.

I am sure you will find a fast and good help in this forum.
I hope retrieve the evolution of your problem in about one week.
Best regards
knp

@garva21

I think that the disk controller is unsupported by the Linux kernel of Knoppix 6.7.1. Therefore it could be helpful to know more about your system's mainboard.

Hi,

@knp & @klaus2008 :- Thanks for replying. Yes i tried even downloading knoppix from mirror sites but result same. Moreover i have a desktop and tried booting knoppix without any HDD connected and same result. As klaus2008 (http://knoppix.net/forum/members/39501-klaus2008) suggested above i too think there might be compatibality issues with my system hardware and knoppix because i tried "SystemRescueCD" and it is working absolutely fine(With HDD connected/disconnected). Thanks all for helping me out though my issue still not resolved but got to learn a lot about Live Linux from all your posts.
