The best of Knoppix with all the latest and fat free, sources list to reflect easy updates for Adobe flash, java, google chrome, and much more. The knoppix user is also Administrator. See what you think! Download it here http://mail.franklin.k12.al.us/KnoppixSlim.zip Extract the ISO from within the zip file and burn to dvd disk. Enjoy! Post your ideas/thoughts. Im entertaining the idea of maintaining this iso so that it stays up to date for the lazy. :)

@ itman007
Just as a suggestion:

Some of us might want to know a little more about KnoppixSlim
before devoting the time to download 3 Gb even with broadband.

You needn't sell us on Knoppix; just tell us what is new & distinct
about KnoppixSlim.

Respectfully.

utu, I fully see your point. The file is about 2Gb and I have 100Mgb pipe here, so download shouldnt take you very long as long as the end user has a little speed. I dont limit outgoing or incoming bandwidth to that server. The most distinct or best feature is that its fully ready for internet without the users needing to install java or flash. The repositorys are configured so that even the novice can keep these updated with the package manager. Libre Office is the latest version as of todays date. There are many packages removed to help reduce the size and keep the most needed things intact. Hopefully this gives an idea of whats inside the ISO.

Sorry, you only offer a download link. Nothing else.

No website where we can read about your remastered Knoppix. No detailed description of your remaster.

It is a question of trust to download something from a not approved source.

Hi Werner -

I think we can decide who we can trust or not on our own.
To be clear, for those who need a hand hold, don't EVER download something you don't trust.
Thanks for your concern, though.

To clear things up if you notice the link we are an K-12 school. Our offical website is www.franklin.k12.al.us (http://www.franklin.k12.al.us) I host all of our files on mail.franklin.k12.al.us server. This keeps a high bandwidth connection for staff and students to download files while keeping traffic to the www link low. Ive started the KnoppixSlim project for the advanced students to run with. I would like to keep it evolving with each class maintaing it and building on it constantly. I would like to get input from other Knoppix users for request or ideas for them to work on. I would like to get it to a point that we could take request to build ISO to meet request in return for donations for supplies and parts within the technology dept. For questions or concerns you can email me directly timburks@franklin.k12.al.us or call 1-256-332-1360 ask to be transfered to my ext of 1603. Thanks greatly.

I might be interested if you would do what Werner implies in Post #4.
Otherwise, not.

itman007:
I'm sure that "your everyday needed apps" not the same of mine...anyway...
How does your Knoppixslim differs from the CD/DVD configuration? You don't tell us nothing what we want to know !
Why I have to try something I do not know? Really, why should I ?
Download about 1GB of "do not know what" is not for me (even for the others, I saw) a concept to consider

I see your concerns I really never looked at it that way. For me the best thing about it is the removal of non everyday or normal user programs. I have added Google Chrome with all the plugins and add on so that you can browse the internet without issues with video and audio and such. Ive upgraded LibreOffice to the latest version. Added the default print value from LOffice to 8x11 for us US users rather than A4. Ive added an VM Ware view client for mobile users so those whom need can use. Updated Konq to latest version. I feel its just a more ready to use Knoppix for internet users than Knoppix as is.

Greetings, itman007.

I find kn-what useful, but that would only be a start here, IMO.

The following might give you some perspective on advertising your distro.
You have a lot of competition, more than just Knoppix.

Competition isnt my concern here. We are an K12 educational institution. We use this remasterd Knoppix to run our labs. The students come up with ideas to add to the iso in which works well for their environment. They just wanted to make it available for public use so that maybe in return they can make custom iso's for someone elses need/request in hopes of getting donations to the technology class/room here in return but mostly as bragging rights to say we made that.

I have made some progress on this. This is focused on US English users with needed applications for web browsing, file browsing and document handling. The package manger looks for US repos. You may email me if you want to look at the site. I will not post the url here. timburks@franklin.k12.al.us or private message me here.
