Danke, Werner.

This article reasonably intelligible in English using Chromium web browser.

.
Just added Google-Translate to IceWeasel 10 and it works just fine.
As a bonus, Firefox 19 works as well. The only difference between
the Mozillas and Chromium seems to be that for the Mozillas,
you need to click Tools>Translate, whereas Chromium does it
automatically.

If you are following this saga, the article in Werner's post #1
makes an excellent test case.

Hello,
When is the Knoppix 7.1 public version supposed to be released ?
I cannot get my hands on the Cebit version.
The US version of Linux Pro Magazine is different and does not include Knoppix 7.1
and the EU version of Linux Magazin does not ship to the US.
Best Regards,
Gilles

Greetings, Ruymbeke.

In regard to 7.1 community distro,
there was (at least) a small problem with PCManFM that Klaus K was grappling with.
I think he was hoping to resolve this with some juggling of libraries.

Hello,
If you are interested in trying Knoppix CeBIT 7.1.0 within a VMware virtual machine guest
you may consider using using this vm which allows Knoppix to recognize the graphical hardware
acceleration and 3D rendering provided by VMware and use the compiz 3D effects (as the cube):

Please provide some feedback.

Did you find a copy of 7.1 to enable you to do this? I have the same problem in the UK. The mag here did not have the version 7.1.

Hi ICPUG,
Yes I bought the Linux Magazin (EU version) via the web and had it shipped to my brother in Switzerland.
Cheers,
Gilles

2 months and still no Knoppix 7.1 community distro... any ETA to share with us ?

Greetings, Gilles.

Klaus K is still struggling with a PCManFM problem in CeBIT 7.1.
If you have a solution for that, it would help get the Community Version out.

As I understand it, a mouse-over of a desktop icon ( in the CeBIT version)
causes an automatic click to open unless a double-click to open option is in force.

Werner or Klaus2008 may be able to explain this more clearly, I don't have
the CeBIT version, myself.

Regards.

Hi Utu,
I just tried Knoppix CeBIT 7.1 as a VMware guest (booting from the iso without customization)
and I can see that just moving the mouse over the "KNOPPIX" folder (without any button pressed)
does actually select that folder as if the button was pressed before moving over that desktop icon.
But it does not open the folder content (as if you would click on that desktop folder icon).
As expected a click on the folder icon does open the folder content.
Not sure why this is a big deal anyway.

In my slightly customized setup I disabled the single click and the problem is gone:
in the [config] section of the file: ~knoppix/.config/libfm/libfm.conf
change "single_click=1" to "single_click=0"

I understand that for some user the need for a double click may be a problem
but this can always be improved/solved in a later release and my guess is that
a lot of Knoppix users would be very happy to see a Knoppix 7.1 Community version
released sooner than later (even with a double click as a default) since not
everybody can have access to the Knoppix CeBIT 7.1version.
My two cents,
Gilles

I don't believe PCManFM's problem is the only problem within V7.1. If I look for possibly problems, I'll get this list. In comparison, within V7.0.5 are no problems reported by kn-what.sh.

This list contains many packages in common with 7.0.5, which does not have this problem.
Also, 'pi' and 'hi' mean what?

Greetings, Werner.

What happens if you try to upgrade the 17 broken packages from
"unstable" manually using

sudo apt-get install -t unstable packagename?

Werner P. Schulz
05-03-2013, 09:27 AM
In the next days Debian testing will become stable and all within '/etc/apt/sources.lst' must be changed. Therefore at present it makes little sense to look what happens using "-t testing" versus "-t unstable". I believe, KK is also waiting until Debian Wheezy will be "stable".

I believe, KK is also waiting until Debian Wheezy will be "stable".

I think you are right, and this may change Aptitude's assessment.
Broken packages is not a popular theory with _some_ developers.

Werner, I ran across this:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=701048
Might this have a bearing on your Aptitude result?

Werner P. Schulz
05-04-2013, 08:52 AM
I get the result with aptitude for Knoppix V7.1 without any trial to update or upgrade something.

wheezy has taken the place of squeeze on the mirrors, wheezy is stable!Take care using your old sources.lst

Debian Wheezy is "stable"

Debian Wheezy since today is no longer "testing" - please note this when using the existing / etc / apt / sources.lst '. I think KK has also waited for this day, maybe we can soon expect his new Knoppix version.

Hello list,

Since it's again been a longer time than planned since CeBIT, and still
no Knoppix 7.1.x public release, I thought I'd leave a short message
here telling a few things I'm still working on.

- Sound/HDMI fix: Sometimes I got reports of sound not working. Now I
found a notebook where I could identify the probable cause: If your
notebook has both a soundcard and a HDMI port which are both handled by
the same module (snd-hda-intel), HDMI may allocate the first card slot,
and the speaker-connected sound chipset the second. aumix, the simple
mixer, only uses the first slot, and many applications will also use the
"first" soundcard instead of allowing you to select the appropriate
device using an alsa selector. The fix is (probably) to change the sound
slot index order in a way so that HDMI is never the first card and has
to explicitly selected by alsa, rather than the full soundcard which
should become the default.

- EFI boot support: Adding an EFI/boot directory with an EFI bootloader
to the USB flash disk installation, which allows EFI as additional boot
method for EFI-only computers that have no CSM BIOS setting.

- Upgrading to Wheezy (now stable) and openoffice+chromium+firefox from
unstable or experimental.

- Resolving the "Desktop Icon Auto-Click" annoyance that suddenly appeared
in version 7.1.

- Upgrading Kernel to 3.9.x 32 and 64bit, and fixing an aufs problem.

- Updating ADRIANE and adding a keyboard learning program (karl).

Regards
-Klaus
