KPPP won't work

can't seem to run kppp from a user I added. The default knoppix user and root has no problem running kppp but running it as my own added user nothing launches. The icon switches to busy for a bit then nothing happens. Have already added the new user to all the groups that user knoppix was in. Do groupings effect programs anyway?

Also sometimes my programs seem to just terminate themselves. Has happened a few times with konqueror and chromium. Is this normal?
