thanks, fingers99! downloaded free nero, burnt as per instructions, and wa-la, it worked!! :D next problem, my modem is an Aopen FM56-PM, which knoppix doesn't "mount"(?). although, it shows the modem in Kontrol panel. looked around couldn't find any drivers, so i'll have to get a new one.
