this might sound strange but is there a way to have knoppix
remastered not with kde ? instead having a init 3 bootup
for patched kernels used for networking purposes but uses
the great booting and autodetect device utils comming with
knoppix ?

Hmm ... I don't see, where your problem is. Just have a closer look into the remastering howto and follow all steps. In that howto, you could find:
- how to list all packages
- how to remove a package

So simply remove all packages, you don't like.

With kind regards,

Konrad

thx for reply,
i agree, packe in/deinstall is not the question, having knoppix
starting only to init 3 would be my thing, when i look into the
init levels i see only 1 major startup, how can i combin this ?
thx ...

It can be tricky to uninstall KDE cleanly and still get a bootable
system in KNOPPIX. Unless you really need all of that space,
just uninstall some basic stuff that has no business being
there anyway, like games. Perhaps remove printing packages
like cups, etc. Use dselect to manage this. You must be chrooted
to the source of the project to make package changes like this.

Then edit /etc/inittab so that the system starts at run level 2.

The network will be up in that init level. You can still start X
afterward if you decided you wanted a web browser, etc.
