Hello, Knoppix works well on my compaq presario 1700 (17XL578).

However, it fails to detect the Network Interface Card and Modem.

Is it possible to install driver for it?

Also I cannot use it in my other Linux.

Thanks so much.

What NIC? What modem? What drivers?

Hello, sorry for the late reply.

The NIC card is Conexant Combo 10/100 NIC and the modem is Conexant HSF Modem. Is it possible to use the NIC and modem in Knoppix or other Linux?

I beleive that NIC uses the tulip driver. It's included w/ Knoppix. Try netcardconfig. If that doesn't work perhaps sudo modprobe tulip will do it. The modem (commonly referred to as a 'winmodem')will be a little more work. You'll need to install drivers for it. Here's a post (http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2557#11967) about installing the drivers while booted from cdrom. Alternatively you could install Knoppix to hdd and install the drivers there or buy an external hardware modem which should work quite well with Linux. The software modems rely very heavily on the OS to do most of the work.
