There is no splash manager in KDE 3.1 the newest version 3.2 does however have on and it works quite well. To change the splash theme in 3.1 the theme files you want to use should be put in the ~/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics/ directory and they will be used on startup instead of the default knoppix one.

You have KDE 3.1 unless you installed 3.2 from source or orth's CVS and to check open the Control Center it tells you in the opening screen, actually now that I checked myself I'm running 3.1.90 so I guess it's not quite at 3.2 yet.

Sorry ~ is your /home/user_name directory eg. my user_name is stephen so ~ = /home/stephen therefore the directory would be /home/stephen/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics/.

note: the . in front of the .kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics/ means it is a hidden directory but you can still access as long as you use the exact path eg. if you were in a console and wanted to change to the directory you would cd .kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics/ and you would be in the proper directory this assuming you start from the /home/user_name directory.

In some versions (3.1.1) it is in: /usr/share/apps/ksplash/pics
