MS Wireless Mouse not working.

When I boot off of the CD; my usb mouse transmitter doesn't turn on, but when I run it off of the harddrive, it turns on but the mouse cursor doesn't move. I tried:

modprobe usbmouse
modprobe hid

What could the problem be?
