Hi, I booted up the cd with the alsa trick and the onboard sound on my Gigabyte GM7VK motherboard and I get sound, albeit a little quiet and staticy, I had an old SB16 laying around and booted the machine up with it, the cd boot detected the card and it worked great. However when I put the cd to hd with KNXinstall the sb16 isn't used and I can't find any way to select it. All i would like to do is use this machine to listen to some shoutcast streams but xmms comes up with : Couldn't open audio: please check that 1: You have correct output plugin selected. (I think I do) 2: no other program is blocking the soundcard (none is afaik straight boot) and 3: your soundcard is configured properly (shouldn't it be the same driver as when it booted from cd>)>?)

Any ideas?

Other than that I have sucessfully got knoppix HD install to network boot over to 3 other machines and its brilliant, thanks for a great product.

Open a console window and su to become root and then sndconfig to run the sound configuration utility.
