one thing I really liked about the earlier knoppixes was kile. It doesn't seem to be on the 3.2 CD. Is there any raeson why apt-get install kile shouldn't work after installing to HD? Because I can't do this on my old -version knoppix. Dependency problems - apt-get -f install seems to recommend removing everything beginning with 'k'! That can't be right!

Have you tried apt-get -s install kile/unstable to simulate the install of the program from unstable. To see where the package will be installed from apt-cache policy kile example output from my install:

HappyTux:/home/stephen# apt-cache policy kile
kile:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 1:1.5-2
Version Table:
1:1.5-2 0
500 http://ftp.de.debian.org unstable/main Packages

As you can see on my system it only has one installation candidate and that is from the unstable branch if the simulated install command above does not look like it will work then post the output of it and the apt-cache policy.

Also you should not be trying to force the install of any program you should be satisfing the dependency problem so it will install properly.
