View Full Version : video out of synch

I was able to boot and run Knoppix 3.1 on my P2/300 Micron at home, but when I DLed and tried 3.2 (don't have the specific build number, but it was DLed on 30 July), the video was out of synch so that the display was scrambled. It runs fine on my P4/1800 Dell at work, and the colors of the desktop are similar to what is scrambled at home, so suspect it is otherwise booting ok.

If I recall, my home computer is about 5 years old and has a Diamond Viper dispaly adapter with an old Monster 3D card. At work, it's about 2 years old with a NVIDIA GeForce 2.

Somebody in my local Linux user group suggested using F2 at the lilo prompt to get into the options, then try other display options, but he didn't have specific suggestions. Any thoughts or other ideas?

Thanks!

Try the cheat code (http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/CheatCodes) knoppix screen=800x600 xvrefresh=60 or maybe even vga=normal. You can also while you are having the problem use the CTRL and ALT keys at the same time then use either the + or - keypad keys to switch the video modes on the fly so to speak.

Stephen...thanks - will give it a try this evening...particularly the Ctrl-Alt live method.

Stephen...tried it and worked great. I see that the screen res is defaulted to 1280x1024, but my board apparently doesn't support that one, so I entered the 1024x768 and it worked fine. Also tried the Crtl-Alt-+/- after it was successfully booted at 1024x768 and that worked great too. Interesting thing was that doing that once it was up, it cycled through all available screen res settings without breaking up, but didn't check to see if 1280x1024 was included or not.

Thanks!
