root password

hi, i am a new user to knoppix. i started to use it today :)

i have a little problem. i want to install a pptp application, but when i try to intall it, a window prompts up asking for the root password. i did not set any passwords.

i have another little prob. i dont know, maybe its on purpose but when i try to enter a password, the text or *** wont appear on the screen!

hope someone could help :)

Hi,
Your problems are not real problems - only something you need to get to :-)

ok, here we go

1) for the password, press ctrl+alt+F2 to get to a console (non-graphic!) which is set for root. then type "passwd" and enter whichever passord you want for root. then go back to your graphic desktop with ctrl+alt+F5

2) you do not see any letters or **** as a security measure so nobody can peek at your password or the number of characters it has.

thanks, i solved the root password "problem".
