Hello,

I am trying to use Knoppix on a Dell Optiplex GX260 using the video hardware displayed below. It is a flat screen monitor, DEL Ultrasharp. However when I boot up, I can only use the 640x480 mode. I have tried using ctrl-alt-+ to try to change video modes but it has no effect.

Video is IntelCorp | 82845G/GL [Brookdale-G] Chipset Integrated Graphics Device; using XFfree86(i810) Server
Monitor is DELe000, H:30-80kHz, V:56-85Hz
Using Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

I have also tried it with another monitor, the IBM 17' P70, which is a normal CRT monitor, and the same effect occurs. Under Windows 2000 this monitor supports 1280x1024.

Can someone please assist me with resolving this.

Some outputs are given below.

Here is the output of sudo lspci -v.

I got my GX270 working OK with:

boot: knoppix vga=normal screen=1280x1024 xvrefresh=60

adjust your refresh rate accordingly!

EDIT: and sound works finally with 2003.0905!

Good Luck,

ian

try Kxcontrol. I had the same problem (althoug on other hardware, and I only got 800x600) and Kxcontrol fixed it for me.

but that was AFTER hd-install... I guess you can't use Kxcontrol to fix it on the live-cd...

I also have this problem in Dell Optiplex GX260 which use Intel 865 videocard. And I found the reason after 4 hours struggle...

We should enter the BIOS, and change the Setting of buffer of video card (may be some different between others , but i am sure all can finally find it), from default 1M to 8M. Then all ok!

I think Dell should point this on their support site, but they do nothing...

Dell is popular in China these years, my boss like Dell , but i become more and more dislike it... Next time, I will sugguest my boss to choose HP, Lenovo or Founder...

Hello Hax,

Thank you very much for your help. We just tried the BIOS setting and it works perfectly. You are very clever to have found this fix.

Take Care,
Ian :D
