Finally got around to registering so I could share the following:

http://staff.washington.edu/gray/kserver.html

and related, my version of a CF how-to:

http://staff.washington.edu/gray/KnoppixCFguide.html

Some of this is overtaken by new features in the 9/5 version, but I
hope this is useful to someone....

Thanks for the info. A slight variation of this is to use 2.5" external USB 2.0 media. It is still very quiet (though slower than standard desktop HD). Talking about noiseless computer, it may be a good idea to grab some 'slower' computers when they are still available. The latest information from Intel IDF tells that future CPU will use more and more power(to the whopping 100W+) and fanless computer will be history soon. May be they should re-design the computer case so it can serve as a coffee warmer, why waste all the heat generated.

My favourite fantasy would be a water cooled system which dumps excess heat to the central heating system!
