As in the subject... the same thing has happened on the following machines when booting from the CD:

- ASUS A7A266 (ALi chipset), T-Bird 1.2, 512MB, Promise UltraTX100-2 card, ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 7500, Intel 10/100 PCI, ASUS DVD-ROM (boot) and Sony 24x CD-RW

- Soltek SL-75FRN2 (Nvidia nForce2), XP 2400, 512MB, Promise UltraTX100-2 card, ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 7500, Intel 10/100 PCI, ASUS DVD-ROM (boot) and Sony 24x CD-RW

Knoppix 3.2 worked flawlessly (aside from the on-board network) on the second machine, but hung at the same place as 3.3.

I am not a Linux newbie, but am a Knoppix newbie. I can provide any information that might be useful. (I am typing this on RH9 on the second machine)

...and try some of the "no"xxx cheatcodes (nodma, noscsi, etc.)

Are there any particular "cheatcodes" that might be applicable here?
